About Me

Makala Blake

Hi there! I’m Makala, a passionate wife, mother, and public relations professional. I have more than a decade of marketing communications experience and love helping organizations reach their goals through increased visibility and brand awareness.

Currently as the National Communications Director at Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ), I develop and execute national media relations strategy to amplify the organization’s mission to replace over-incarceration with more effective safety solutions. My role involves increasing awareness of ASJ and our initiatives, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice and TimeDone. I also work to integrate this work with broader marketing efforts, including social media and paid media campaigns.

Before joining ASJ in-house, I worked my way up from an account manager to vice president for a number of public relations agencies. This experience has equipped me with a diverse skill set, which include media relations, paid media planning and buying, social media management, experiential marketing, and more.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from THE Southern University and A&M College. Aside from work, I am committed to community service and sisterhood as an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and advisor for Lambda Tau Youth Sorority Inc.

I’m skilled in a wide range of marketing communications tactics to maintain or improve the image of an individual or organization. These tactics include media relations, media planning and buying, social media management, influencer marketing, and more.

I’m most passionate about elevating the work of nonprofits dedicated to improving outcomes for others. As a native of Baton Rouge and former resident of New Orleans, I’m especially invested in supporting local organizations.
